Description
The Corn Exchange Public House is a building dating largely from the 18th century. The original building has a steep slate roof with boxed eaves and a roughcast chimney stack on the left side; a second chimney stack was likely present on the right but has now been roofed over. The front of the building features two sixteen-pane sash windows on the first floor, characterised by their thick glazing bars and flush frames. A more modern window is present in the portion of the building that was once the Corn Exchange. A later corrugated lean-to shop front extends across the front, providing access to the pub on the right and a separate shop entrance on the left.
The gable end wall facing Beaufort Street is roughcast and originally contained an extension known as the "Round House," as depicted in a view from 1750. This extension has been removed, leaving an exposed chimney breast which is corbelled at the top of the ground floor. Two small-pane sash windows with broad architraves are located here, along with a further window in the attic.
The Floriana business occupies the first floor and attic spaces of the building, extending over the shop. The interior of the main room retains chamfered beams and tenoned purlins forming part of the roof structure. The major part of the Corn Exchange Inn is no longer of special interest.
