Description
This is a Gothic-style polygonal drinking fountain, built as a memorial. It features a tall unpolished grey granite stem that stands on a stepped platform, topped with crucifix finials. Above the stem is a band of cusped gablets, with attached shafts and bell bases on each face. The square base has advanced gabled niches and lion fountain heads that once held bronze cups, leading to broad quatrefoil-shaped basins below, supported by free-standing low columns. The water pipe was laid by Sir Joseph Bailey. An inscribed band in black lettering reads: "In memory of Henry John Lucas MD. Born July 3rd 1804, died Decbr 29th 1873."
