Description

This is a late Georgian building comprising two attached properties, originally three storeys high with a basement. The frontages are rendered and stuccoed, with a rough cast finish and prominent cill bands. The roofs are slate, with brick and cement chimney stacks, and the building at No. 17 retains a parapet. The windows are mostly original recessed sash windows, with 6 panes to the upper floors of No. 16 and 12 panes to the first floor of No. 17. Original shop fronts are preserved in both properties, featuring blind boxes, moulded cornices, ironwork ventilation bands, and fluted and foliated mullions to the shop windows of No. 17. The shop fronts have splayed central entrances. A shared, advanced ground floor opening divides the two properties, featuring cornices and keystones to semicircular arched doorways leading to narrow cross passages.
