Description

This is a late Georgian building comprising a group of two paired properties. The buildings are three storeys high, with a basement, and have rendered and stuccoed frontages, finished with cement, scribing and roughcast, accentuated by deep cill bands. They have slate roofs and chimney stacks made of brick and cement render. Number 17 retains a parapet. The windows are recessed sash windows, with 6 panes to the ground and first floors of number 16, and 12 panes to the first floor of number 17. Shop fronts have been preserved in both properties, featuring blind boxes, moulded cornices, an ironwork ventilation band, and fluted and foliated mullions to the shop windows of number 17, with splayed central entrances. A dividing section with advanced ground floor openings features cornices and keystones to semicircular headed arches which lead to narrow cross passages.
