Description

Nos 11 and 13 School Street are mid-18th century houses that have been later extended and subdivided. The group now consists of two two-storey cottages made of whitened limestone rubble, topped with a continuous slate roof. The end chimneys mark the limits of the main block, which is to the left.

No. 11 features an off-centre entrance on the left with a boarded door and a dressed stone lintel. This entrance is flanked by one window on the left and two on the right, all with similar lintels and plain four-pane sash windows. The first window on the right was originally an entrance and has an inscribed stone plaque above its lintel. Above the outer windows, there are first-floor sashes that are longer than those on the ground floor and break the eaves, set within gabled dormers that have plain 20th-century bargeboards.

No. 13 has an entrance on the left accessed through a modern gabled porch with a part-glazed modern door. To the right of this entrance is a six-pane modern window on the ground floor, with a similar dormer above featuring a nine-pane, part-tilting modern window. Throughout both cottages, there are plain projecting stone sills.

Inside, original features include hewn beams and a large stone hearth lintel.
