Description
Bryn-y-Ffynon is a mid-18th century vernacular house with two storeys and an end chimney, dated 1752. It is built of limestone rubble, which was once whitened, and originally featured gable parapets, with small curved kneelers still visible. The house has a renewed slate roof and plain stone end chimneys on the main section. The facade is nearly symmetrical, with a central entrance flanked by windows on both the ground and first floors. The entrance has a recessed boarded door, which includes a 20th-century boarded door within a wooden frame. Above the door is a stone plaque with a finely cut inscription that reads: "Bryn Y Ffynon built by William Owens/and Anne his wife/1752".
The ground floor windows are larger six-pane designs with one casement pane, while the upper floor features sliding sash windows, which are modern replacements. To the right, there is a single bay addition from the early 19th century, which has windows similar to the main house but misaligned. The left gable end has an entrance with a deeply recessed boarded door.
At the rear, there are two small square primary lights on the right, one on each floor, featuring plain casement glazing. The left-hand rear corner is rounded at the ground floor and continues square above. A modern two-storey stone-clad wing projects from the rear, forming a T-plan with the main range. This wing has a small lean-to structure at the left angle and a larger modern porch with a hipped slate roof on the right.
Inside, the former hall on the right and the parlour on the left feature stopped-chamfered main beams, with plain joists.
