Description

Pentre Mill, built from rubble with roughly squared quoins and a slate roof, stands three storeys tall. The windows are all horizontally sliding sashes that were reglazed and restored in 1980. The yard-facing elevation features a ground floor entrance with a cambered arch, boarded doors, and a small window above. Evidence of a lower steeply pitched roofline can be seen in the masonry. The right-hand side has a timber external stair leading to a door, with a small window to the right and another small window on the upper floor. The left-hand side has one small centrally placed window on both the ground and upper floors, along with two larger windows on the first floor.

At the rear, there is an overshot cast iron waterwheel marked with the maker's name, R & W Jones Ruabon, which is fed by a cast iron flume from the same manufacturer. Above the wheel, there is a small window and a ventilation slit, and the line of the former roof is visible in the masonry. The flume connects to a sluice with gates that were renewed in 1980.

Although not accessible during the 1995 survey, it was recorded as containing working machinery that had been restored with some replacements in 1980. The ground floor features millstones set into the floor and a drive floor at the rear with mill machinery. The first floor retains additional millstones, while the upper floor has sack hoists and other equipment.
