Description
Ty'n y Fedw is a very small cottage that consists of a single-celled range with a second unit that is possibly later and set forward from the main structure. It is built from local sandstone rubble, featuring roughly squared quoins and buttered pointing. The roof is made of to'r brat, or economy slate, which is highly unusual for a domestic building, except for the front slope of the secondary unit. The cottage has slate verges and a large advanced stack on the lower gable of the primary unit, topped with a squared stone stack raised in brickwork.
Access to the cottage is from the rear, now through a modern brick lean-to. The front elevation features a small canted bay window, also with a to'r brat roof, which has paired pointed lights. Above this bay window, there is a four-pane sash window that is unaligned. On the first floor, there is a single window in the right-hand gable return, which is a two-light casement with a timber lintel. The advanced bay on the left side is blind on its front elevation but has a two-pane casement window with a brick arched head on each floor of the gable end. A small stone lean-to encloses the base of the stack, which contains a blocked doorway in the gable wall of the original unit.
Inside, the cottage has a simple layout with one room on each floor of both the original unit and the extension. There is a modern fireplace that conceals the original arrangement of the exceptionally large stack, and a simple timber staircase is located against the upper gable wall.
