Description
Old Station is a railway station built in the 19th century. It features a two-storey main block with three symmetrical windows and single-storey annexes on all sides. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork and has a low-pitched slated roof with generous eaves and verge projections, a lead ridge, timber bargeboards, and eaves fascias. There are brick end chimneys on the main roof and a tall brick chimney at the east annex.
The front elevation facing the platform has 16-pane hornless sash windows on the upper storey and 12-pane hornless sash windows below. The lower storey extends forward at each end, with a felted linking roof across the main frontage, which includes three windows and a door at platform level.
The rear elevation facing the yard features a projecting stair bay on the main block, with an arch-headed hornless sash window at the landing and 16-pane hornless sash windows on each side above. The projecting lower storey at each end has a continuation roof that meets the stair bay. There is a window to the left and a door with a window to the right. Additionally, there is a lean-to against the west elevation that has two six-pane windows with unequal sashes.
Part of the brickwork to the west of the main block and a section of the south elevation has been painted red.
