Description

Christ Church Vicarage is a large two-storey parsonage built in local uncoursed rock-faced limestone masonry, featuring freestone dressings around the doors and windows, similar to the nearby church. The building has slate roofs laid in regular courses and stone chimneys.

The architectural style is modestly Gothic, with segmental arches on all openings, often with a slight point. The overall rectangular layout includes a complex roof design, with the main section located to the south, which connects the main reception rooms. The eaves and verge overhangs are adorned with carved bargeboards and small finials, and there are two gablets on the south elevation above the windows and two on the east.

On the south elevation, there is a canted bay window on the left, featuring a large four-pane sash window that reaches the ground, flanked by two-pane sash windows. To the right, there is a tripartite sash window, with four-pane sash windows above. A lean-to roof on the left gable creates a large open porch, which may not be original. The west elevation has an advanced gable with a two-window range, generally featuring four-pane sashes, but with a wider tripartite window on the lower left. There is a set-back narrow service bay on the left with similar windows, including a very small one on the first floor, leading to a yard wall. The east elevation is irregular, containing two or four-pane sash windows, including one bipartite window. The north elevation has been altered, with a window in the kitchen yard outhouse blocked.

Internally, the house is organized around a central stair hall, with reception rooms located to the south and service rooms to the north. There is a separate service staircase. The interior features a good dogleg staircase with newels and turned balusters, and marble or sandstone fireplace surrounds throughout, equipped with cast iron grates.
