Shelter Shop

The Shelter Shop, located at 170 and 174 High Street in Prestatyn, consists of two shops that share similar shopfronts in the center of a terrace of four. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a shallow pitched slate roof that is concealed by a high parapet. The design of the shopfronts is intended to maximize external display visibility. Each shopfront includes a central island display case, with an additional display case on each side. These side cases are set back and angled to meet the door at the rear of the island case, allowing shoppers to enter from either side. The display cases are supported by a masonry plinth approximately 500 mm high. The side cases feature a thin moulded transom at a high level with glazing above, while the island case has a flat roof. The main glazing below the transom level consists of straight and curved panes of plate glass, separated by decorative thin uprights. Above the transom, there is leaded obscured glazing with art nouveau features. A deep fascia for the shop name is inclined forward above the boxing. The shopfronts also have small colored floor tiles arranged in patterns. On the first floor, there is an oriel window to the left and a tripartite window to the right, both with transoms and flanked by brick pilasters.
