Description
Tai Tywyn consists of two cottages, with the original structure being the range to the south, which has been significantly extended at both ends. A later addition runs parallel to the rear of the original building. The south range is constructed from local uncoursed stone, showing a slight difference in masonry between the original part and the extensions. There is some brickwork near the east end of the south elevation and in the east gable. The rear range is made of brick. Both ranges have slate roofs laid in regular courses. Conservation work has masked the contrast between the original and later materials in both the walls and roofing. The south range features three brick chimneys, one of which has been heightened, while the rear range also has three chimneys.
As part of the conservation work, rooflights have been discreetly inserted into the valley-facing slopes of the roofs. An additional range has been added to the north, creating an enclosed yard, although this new range is not perfectly parallel to the earlier structures. The new building has a patent-glazed entrance and new paving has been installed.
