Description
This is a symmetrical three-storey, three-window house located at 1 Record Street, built in the 19th century. The house is made of painted brick and features a slate roof with renewed brick end stacks. It has a moulded eaves cornice and a random stone plinth on the left side. The windows consist of 12-pane hornless sashes on the ground and first floors, and 3-over-6-pane sashes on the second floor, all set under cambered heads.
The entrance is marked by a moulded wooden doorcase, with pilasters that have fluted capitals supporting an open dentilled triangular pediment. The round-arched doorway contains an inset panelled door, a fanlight with radial glazing, and panelled reveals. Above the entrance, there is a flat-roofed oriel window on curved brackets, featuring a 12-pane horned sash at the front and side-lights.
On the east gable end, there is a 4-pane horned sash window offset to the left on the first and second floors, while the ground floor is not visible. A rubble boundary wall adjoins the southeast angle and fronts Record Street. The west gable end is adjacent to the rear wing of 15 Castle Street. The rear of the house has a small lean-to that can be seen from No 15. The interior has not been observed.
