Description

This is a two-storey, four-window house located at 9 Castle Street, which includes forecourt railings. The building features a two-window main range with flanking projecting gabled wings, all topped with half-hipped roofs. The exterior is roughcast under slate roofs, with a central renewed brick ridge stack and lateral brick stacks on the wings. There is a moulded wooden eaves cornice.

To the right of the center, there is a wide porch supported by slender iron columns, which holds a deep flat-roofed canopy featuring a central raised open pediment. Inside the porch, there is a half-glazed panelled door with quarry glazing and panelled reveals, along with an elliptical fanlight that has radial glazing and side-lights with quarries. To the left of the porch, there is a four-light wooden casement window with gothic glazing, where the outer lights are narrower. There is also an added Victorian doorway to the right with a half-glazed panelled door.

On the upper storey, there are two widely spaced 12-pane hornless sash windows. The wings have three-over-six-pane sashes on the upper storey of the gabled fronts, while the ground floor features 12-pane sashes on the front of the south wing and the right-hand return of the north wing; the south wing also has a small sash on the right-hand return.

The property fronts the road and is accompanied by iron railings with pointed finials set on a low stone wall with semi-circular copings. There is a small gate to the entrance that matches the style of the railings, with dog bars also featuring pointed finials. The interior has not been seen.
