Description

Fir Grove is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-window house, likely dating to the 18th century. The front elevation is of red brick on a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof and featuring two prominent brick ridge stacks. The north gable is brick, the south gable is rendered, and a rear elevation is of random stone. A central entrance is accessed by stone steps leading to a moulded architrave with a pediment and a fanlight with radial glazing above a six-panel door. The windows are 12-pane hornless sash windows with wedge lintels and stone sills. A cellar opening is located to the right. The north gable end has two windows on each floor, with sashes matching those on the front; the attic has a blind nine-pane window, and a small, plain-glazed light is positioned above the upper right sash. A single-storey wing adjoins the lower right. The south gable end, partially visible, displays small casements offset to the right of the ground floor, a small horned sash to the left of the first floor, and an attic window. The rear elevation features openings with flat or cambered stone heads, all with renewed small-pane wooden glazing. A doorway is offset to the left of centre and features a half-glazed boarded door. There is a three-light casement to the left, a very small light to the right, and French doors further to the right. A tall stair-light with a round-arched head is centrally positioned at a mid-level, with a single top-hung light to its left and a two-light casement to its right. Two small gabled dormers with horizontal-sliding sashes are present in the attic. The single-storey wing adjoining the north end has features dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, including brickwork, a slate roof, a brick end stack, French doors, and top-hung windows with small-pane glazing. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
