Description
Woodville
Woodville is one half of a reflected pair of picturesque Domestic-revival two-storey houses, partnered with Edenhurst. Both are built of brick in the lower storey and timber-framed in the upper storey, beneath tile roofs with overhanging eaves, moulded finials, and brick stacks positioned at the gables and centre.
Each house comprises four irregular bays. The outer bays are set back, while the inner bays are broader and positioned beneath gables with diagonal bracing. A slightly higher axial roof line spans across these gables, incorporating the central stack. The entrance to Woodville is positioned in one of the set-back bays, which is brought forward in the lower storey and flanked by angle buttresses. The door is a panel type beneath a segmental-pointed head, with a gabled porch canopy supported on moulded wooden brackets and featuring moulded trusses.
Windows throughout are wood-framed casements. Woodville retains original leaded glass in its windows, with small-pane coloured frosted glass positioned over transoms. Narrow bays adjacent to the entrance contain single-light windows in each storey beneath hipped roofs. The inner bays feature four-light bay windows in the lower storey and three-light windows in the upper storey. The set-back outer bays have three-light windows, segmental-pointed in the lower storey and positioned beneath gables in the upper storey.
The right gable end and rear of Woodville are finished with pebble-dashed walls. The rear elevation features a flat-roof two-storey shallow projection on the left side. An added conservatory occupies the centre below a gabled replacement stair window, enclosing the original entrance to the rear wing on the right side. This rear wing features a studded boarded door with strap hinges and a hipped roof with three-light windows.
Internally, the entrance vestibule and straight closed-string stair retain a panelled dado incorporating plaster relief panels depicting cherubs amid foliage. The rear room on the left side and kitchen in the rear wing retain original built-in cupboards. Panel doors throughout are finished with reed-moulded surrounds.
