Description
The gates, gate piers, walls, and forecourt balustrade at Conway Lodge are notable features from the 19th century. The square rock-faced gate piers have freestone quoins and pyramid caps. Inside the entrance, there are wooden gate posts topped with finials. The main iron gate is a replacement and features X-pattern bracing over dog bars, along with fleur-de-lis finials. The outer wooden pedestrian gates are fitted with iron bars. The walls curve outward to terminal piers that resemble the gate piers.
On the inner side, the gate and forecourt walls of Conway Lodge are attached. At the southern end, near the entrance to the drive, there is a wooden gate with iron bars, positioned between wooden square gate posts. The forecourt is bordered by dwarf stone walls and an arcaded wooden balustrade that includes subsidiary iron bars. This forecourt extends along the western and northern sides of the lodge, with a short return at the southern end leading to the lodge gate.
