Description
Princess Bingo and Social Club (Nos 20-24 (even) Princes Drive, Colwyn Bay
Exterior: the cinema is a plain printed brick building with a rendered facade. This is 2-storeyed, and 3 bays, with advanced central range. Glass canopy carried on cast iron columns with ornamental rackets to ground floor. Central entrance (the detail renewed) and shop front incorporating to right (renewed). Above the canopy, the central block is articulated by sunk coupled lotus leaf pilasters, flanking the low-set windows of the first floor, and set in panel with roughcast rendered surround. Splayed fluted cornice and blocking course with eagle in low relief. Paired tall windows in flanking outer bays, in roughcast rendered panels.
Interior: the original Art Deco interior survives almost intact: auditorium with gallery to rear, and stage. Walls articulated by ribbed pilasters. Deco grills over side doors. Neo-Egyptian captitals to fluted columns supporting gallery. Scrolled ribbed beams across ceiling. Some original doors to auditorium and former bar, with stepped grids of glazing, and original ceiling and wall lights in auditorium.
