5 Penrhyn Buildings

5 Penrhyn Buildings, located at Nos 28-34 Penrhyn Road with Nos 1-7 Princes Drive in Colwyn Bay, is a building from the early 20th century featuring buff brick with white faience dressings. It stands three storeys tall and has a curved plan, consisting of three distinct sections symmetrically arranged around a central block. This central block contains three shops, with white faience used for the shop fronts at the ground floor. The upper floors are designed with a 1-3-2-3-1 window arrangement, featuring narrow end bays above the side entrances and a pediment over the two central bays.

Plain brick pilasters separate the windows, which include 2-pane sashes with margin lights on the first floor and 12-pane sash windows on the second floor. The building is adorned with a white faience cornice, and the side entrances are framed by moulded architraves topped with flat entablature hoods. The shop fronts include one unit on the right that has been renewed, while the others retain their original features, including curved glazing with margin lights in the upper panes, tiled stall risers, and mosaic floors.

Flanking the central block are symmetrical outer bays, also three storeys high, featuring steep hipped green slate roofs and leaded upper panes on the first floor. The second floor contains five 12-pane sash windows, with white faience architraves framing the first-floor windows and a white cornice band. While many of the shop fronts have survived, some of the glazing has been updated.
