Description
30 Penrhyn Buildings, located at Nos 28-34 Penrhyn Road with Nos 1-7 Princes Drive in Colwyn Bay, is a building constructed from buff brick with white faience dressings. It stands three storeys tall and has a curved design, consisting of three distinct sections that are symmetrically arranged around a central block. This central block features three shops with white faience shop fronts on the ground floor. Above, the design is articulated in a 1-3-2-3-1 pattern, with narrow end bays positioned over side entrances and a pediment above the two central bays.
Plain brick pilasters separate the windows, which include 2-pane sash windows with margin lights on the first floor and 12-pane sash windows on the second floor. The building has a white faience cornice, and the side entrances are framed with moulded architraves topped with flat entablature hoods. The right-hand shop unit has been renewed, while the other shop fronts maintain their original features, including curved glazing with margin lights in the upper panes, tiled stall risers, and mosaic floors.
Flanking the central block are symmetrical outer bays, also three storeys high, featuring steep hipped roofs covered in green slate. The first floor has leaded upper panes, and there are five 12-pane sash windows on the second floor. The first-floor windows are adorned with white faience architraves and a white cornice band. While many of the shop fronts remain intact, some of the glazing has been updated.
