Description
7 Penrhyn Buildings is a 19th-century structure located in Colwyn Bay, featuring buff brick with white faience dressings. The building is three storeys high and has a curved plan, consisting of three distinct elements that are symmetrically arranged around a central block. This central block houses three shops with white faience shop fronts at the ground floor. Above, the design is articulated in a 1-3-2-3-1 pattern, with narrow end bays over side entrances and a pediment over the two central bays.
Plain brick pilasters separate the windows, which are two-pane sashes with margin lights. The first floor features a Greek Key frieze in the entablature, while the second floor has twelve-pane sash windows. A white faience cornice runs along the top, and the side entrances are framed with moulded architraves and flat entablature hoods.
The shop fronts include one unit that has been renewed, while the others retain their original features, including curved glazing with margin lights in the upper panes, tiled stall risers, and mosaic floors. The central block is flanked by symmetrical outer bays, which are also three storeys tall and topped with steep hipped green slate roofs. These outer bays have leaded upper panes on the first floor and five twelve-pane sash windows on the second floor. The first floor windows are adorned with white faience architraves and a white cornice band. Many of the shop fronts remain intact, although some glazing has been updated.
