Description
Nos 51 and 53 are a former Medical Hall and an adjoining shop, built in a late-Georgian style. The buildings feature a roughcast frontage with cement rendered dressings, quoins, and sill bands, topped by a slate roof with brick stacks. No 51 has four bays and three windows, with a 19th-century shopfront in the two left bays and a central door with an overlight. No 53 has two window bays and a contemporary shopfront on the ground floor. The first floor has twelve-paned sash windows, while the attic floor features nine-pane windows. There is one bay of similar windows on the east return and a similar shop window on the ground floor. Above the shopfront in the blank left bay, there is a painted advertising panel in a shouldered frame, with a white plaster background and dark red/brown lettering that reads: MEDICAL HALL / D.L.Morgan Ph C MPS FBOA / Dispensing Chemist / Consulting Optician / Established 1820. Above this, an exposed date stone reads W M W 1827. Morgan's shopfront, now known as Kitchens of Abergele, is asymmetrical, featuring a recessed margin-glazed door and end fluted pilasters that rise to a bracketed fascia. The large display window has narrow overlights with Edwardian free-style glazing with coloured lights, and the shopfront for No. 53 is similar but does not have a recessed door. The rear of the buildings is also pebbledashed between quoins and sill bands, with brick stacks.
