Description
The Field Barn at Penrhyn Uchaf is a Grade II listed building featuring drystone construction with flat slate slabs and some boulders in the foundations, topped with a modern thin slate roof. The barn has two boarded doors facing the track to the southeast; the left door leads into the barn itself, while the right door opens to a lofted animal shelter that was added beyond the original northeast gable end, which now serves as a partition wall. This added northeast gable includes stone steps leading up to a small loft doorway.
The ground slopes down to the northwest side, where there is a doorway to the animal shelter on the right, along with a small-pane agricultural type window that has a wooden lintel and a slate sill. The shelter is lofted, with the loft open to the barn and featuring a wooden feed trough.
Inside the barn, the roof is supported by two tie-beam trusses, although one of the trusses has lost its tie, and there are two tiers of purlins.
