Description
Peniarth Uchaf is a two-storey building constructed from rubble stone, featuring long flush quoin stones likely sourced from local quarries. It has slated roofs and sturdy stone stacks at both ends of the main range and on the north end of the south cross wing. The layout includes a principal north-south range, a parallel rear range, a forward cross wing at the south end that forms an 'L' shape with the main range, and a lower service wing at the north end, which is set back from the main east front.
The main front displays paned timber windows beneath a lean-to verandah, featuring a 2-light window to the left, French windows at the center, and a tripartite paned window on the right. Above the verandah roof, there are three 2-light windows on the first floor, equipped with slatted shutters. The building has wide eaves that overhang. The south end cross range includes a tall tripartite window of similar design on the ground floor, which is also enclosed within a separate open verandah that runs along the south side. The first floor has similar 2-light windows with shutters.
At the rear, the block has a set-back gable at the south end, which is positioned behind the cross wing. This gable features shaped bargeboards and an oculus. The service range at the north contains the main entrance door and a window, and it has a hipped roof. Between the French window and the tripartite window under the verandah, there is a memorial slab attached to the wall in remembrance of the workers on the estate who lost their lives in war. The building was not accessible at the time of inspection.
