Neuadd Bentref

Neuadd Bentref is a building constructed of coursed slate, featuring terracotta quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof that has perforated crest ridge tiles. It is designed in a simple T plan, resulting in a symmetrical facade. The central wide gable displays two sash windows, with the upper sash divided into six panes. These windows are set in dressed openings with joggled radial lintel voussoirs and a moulded cornice. Above the windows is a terracotta plaque with a corniced pediment and side scrolls, inscribed in raised lettering: SCHOOL BOARD / OF / TOWYN & PENNAL, with the date 1902 in the pediment. On either side of the gable are lean-to entrance porches featuring half-glazed doors at the outer ends.

At the back, the continuous classroom block consists of three bays, each with large round-headed four-light windows, which have small panes above the two transoms in the head. The roof extends to the right, covering a small bellcote supported by cut brackets. At the center, there is a small but intricately detailed cupola with square baluster corners and a square ogee dome. The base of the cupola is clad in painted lead with diagonal lead rolls. A brass benchmark marked G2569 is also present. The building has been extended at the rear to include a kitchen and lean-to WCs.

Inside, the ceiling is at collar level, leaving the trusses exposed at the top of the two glazed cross partitions.
