Description
Pen-y-garreg is a farmhouse with associated farm buildings arranged in a line. The house is constructed from slate rubble and is whitewashed, featuring an old irregularly shaped slate roof. The roof continues in modern slate over the former farm building that is aligned with the house. The gables are slate coped, and the ridges are made of blue clayware. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a parlour on the left and a kitchen on the right. The front is symmetrical, featuring a central boarded door with a narrow overlight, flanked by late 19th-century four-pane sash windows on either side and one above the door on the first floor. There are gable stacks present. The living space has been extended into the former farm building attached to the east, which is one storey with an attic. The front wall of this building has been largely rebuilt in concrete blockwork and features two stable-type doors. Access to the loft is from the rear. On the west gable end, there is an added stone and slated lean-to that was formerly a washhouse, which has a stone stack on the rear wall, along with a boarded door and a timber window. The property was not accessible at the time of inspection.
