Description
West Trehill is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid 19th century, with few later alterations. It is built of slatestone rubble, partly rendered and partly slate-hung, and has a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The building features gable end stacks with rendered shafts. The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a large room on the left, a central door leading to an entrance hall, and a small room on the right that has a stair at the rear. To the rear right, there is an integral service wing also with a two-room plan, where the room at the end is heated by a gable end stack.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front that is slate-hung. All windows are mid 19th century plate-glass sashes with margin glazing. The central entrance has panelled double doors with a pitched slate hood and an inner half-glazed margin glazed door. The right side of the building is rendered, while the right gable end is blind. The rear wing on the right is two storeys tall, featuring a 20th-century door and two 20th-century casements on the ground and first floors. The gable end stack has a brick shaft with a curved oven at the base, and there is a door to the right of the stack along with a 20th-century window at first floor level. The left side of the main range has a blind gable end and a two-storey lean-to at the rear with 20th-century casements on both floors. The interior has not been inspected.
