Description

This house, likely dating to circa 1872, is situated in Calstock, and is associated with the former Incline Railway Depot. Constructed of granite rubble with brick dressings, the house has a slate roof with gable ends and gable end stacks, the stack on the left having a rubble shaft. The original plan consisted of two rooms, each with its own gable end stack for heating. On the road front, a one-room plan addition was under construction at the time of a survey in January 1987 and appears to be located on the site of the former weighbridge pit. The front elevation has a splayed angle on the right, featuring a 20-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash above. To the left is a 12-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors. The addition under construction is two stories high. The interior was inaccessible during the survey. Historical sources include the Tamar Valley Project and Barton's "Mines and Mineral Railways of East Cornwall and West Devon" from 1964. The building is recognized for its group value, contributing to the character of the area.
