Description
The Danescombe Hotel is a large house, now functioning as a hotel, with an attached front wall and railings. It was built around 1860 and has undergone few alterations since then. The structure is made of rendered stone rubble and features a hipped slate roof with stacks on the sides that have rendered shafts. The building has a double depth plan, with the main rooms located at the front left and right, and a central entrance leading to service rooms at the rear. It is built into the bank at the back and faces the River Tamar.
The exterior of the hotel is three storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. All the windows are 19th-century two-light casements. The ground floor features panelled double doors at the centre, with French windows on either side. There is a verandah with a tented roof and a wooden lattice balustrade, complete with a scalloped valance, at both the ground and first floors. The front wall is constructed of rubble and topped with railings that have knob finials, while the stanchions are adorned with trefoil finials.
The interior has not been inspected. The Danescombe Hotel is prominently situated on the bank of the River Tamar and was built by the Edgcumbe family of Cotehele. It is visible from the Chapel of St George and St Thomas a Becket.
