Description

The water tower at Calstock, built around 1872, is constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings. It has a rectangular plan and features an open-top tank situated at the top of the tower. The structure includes a tall round arch that reaches the height of the stonework, with brick above the arch. An iron ladder is attached to the side of the tower for inspecting the tank. This water tower was originally used to supply water for the engines operating on the Mineral Railway and a portable steam engine on the incline. Even after the incline was no longer in use, the tower was maintained as part of a gravity-fed water system that supplied water to the station in Calstock.
