Description

This farmhouse, located northeast of Newton Farm, likely dates from the late 18th century, with a mid-19th century addition at the rear and further alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a hipped scantle slate roof adorned with crested ridge tiles, along with brick chimney stacks on the sides.

The building has a two-room plan with a central entrance, where each room is heated by a side stack. In the mid-19th century, a two-storey service wing was added to the rear left, which is also heated by a stack at the junction with the main structure. A stable was constructed at the back of the service wing.

The exterior stands two storeys high and presents a symmetrical three-window front. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows on both the right and left, with a central 20th-century window. The ground floor features a central 20th-century glazed door flanked by 16-pane sashes with chambered heads on either side. The left side has a blind end wall, while the rear service wing includes two 4-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors. Attached to the rear is a two-storey stable with a corrugated iron roof, which has two doorways and a first-floor window opening to the left, built into the bank at the rear gable end. The right side of the stable is blind. Additionally, there is a one-storey lean-to with a loft attached to the rear right, which is unheated and features a four-panelled door on the side, along with 4-pane lights at both the ground and first floors on the rear.

The interior was not fully accessible during the survey in December 1986. The front right room includes a slate floor and a marble chimneypiece, while there is a boxed stair to the rear with stick balusters and a columnar newel. The front left room contains a wooden chimneypiece. At the back of the entrance passage, a door leads to the kitchen located in the rear wing.
