Description
Trerew Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid 19th century, with later additions from the 19th century and a few alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, featuring stone dressings and quoins, and has a hipped roof covered with slurried scantle slate and ridge tiles. The building has an end stack to the left and an axial stack to the right, both with brick shafts.
The farmhouse has a two-room plan, with an entrance that is off-centre to the left, leading into a large entrance and stair hall. There is one room on the left, heated by the end stack, and one room on the right, heated by the axial stack. In the later 19th century, a kitchen wing was added to the rear right, and there is a single-storey cart shed attached at the left end, which is open-fronted at the rear, facing the farmyard.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front. All windows are late 19th-century sashes with wide margin glazing and cambered stone arches. On both the ground and first floors, there are three windows to the right and one to the left. The doorway, which is the second from the left, features a 20th-century half-glazed door. Projecting from the front right is a single-storey scullery or wash house, which has two windows on the inner side and is rendered, with a gable end stack. At the left end, there is a single-storey shed, with the cart shed located to the rear left, also open-fronted at the rear. At the back, the service wing is on the left, featuring two gable ends with similar sashes on both floors and a 20th-century door.
The interior is not accessible, but it may still contain good features from the 19th century, such as details of the stair and joinery.
