Description

Tregair Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed from whitewashed stone, with the first floor made of cob. It features a roof covered with tarred scantle slate that mimics thatch. The building has an 'L' shape with a cross passage accessed from the re-entrant angle. Inside, there is a stair by the passage, a living kitchen to the left with a large stack on the rear wall, a pantry in the corner, and a parlour in the forward wing on the right, which also has a lateral fireplace. The farmhouse is one storey with an attic.

The windows are made of timber and feature 18th-century puntil glass, with a 16-pane sash window in the parlour. The upper floor has 19th-century four-paned sashes in raised dormers with raking roofs. The roof is hipped over the living kitchen and half-hipped over the parlour wing. An early 19th-century two-bay block has been added parallel to the parlour wing, creating a new front with two rooms and a central hall. The ground floor is pebble-dashed, while the upper floor is slate-hung.

The central recessed door is accompanied by a small glazed classical porch with pilasters, a cambered cornice, and a ball-enriched fascia, along with a pair of glazed doors. The roof is hipped, and there are stacks on the gable ends. Inside, the farmhouse features good two-panel doors and a ventilated door to the pantry, bead-moulded joists, a 19th-century stair, and a surround to the fireplace. The roof structure is of quasi-cruck form, with closely spaced curved principals set into the top of the wall, crossed at the apex to support the ridge pole, and having a low set collar or tie pegged to the blades.
