Description

This is a finger post located at the west end of Cargoll Road in St Newlyn East, dating from the early 20th century. Made of cast iron, it is likely produced by the Basset foundry. The post is tapered and features the word "CORNWALL" inscribed vertically. It has four square arms with raised margins, each displaying sans serif capitals that indicate directions and distances: (a) NEWQUAY 4½ miles, CUBERT 2 miles, HOLYWELL 3¾ miles; (b) ZELAH 4 miles, TRURO 9 miles, REDRUTH 13 miles; (c) CRANTOCK 4 miles; and (d) NEWLYN EAST 1 mile, MITCHELL 3½ miles. The post is topped with a square pyramidal finial.
