Description
Redwing is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of uncoursed killas shale and has an asbestos slate roof that replaced the original thatch. The building was originally designed with a linhay plan, featuring a central stair hall and a narrow service range running the full length at the rear. The layout includes a living room to the left, a dining room in the right bay, which is slightly narrower, and a kitchen at the rear. The cottage is two storeys high and has a half-glazed door along with paned casement windows that are irregularly placed, all featuring flush timber lintels. The stonework suggests that the front wall has been partially rebuilt, replacing cob. There are brick gable stacks, and the right bay at the rear has been raised to two storeys and is slate-hung. To the right, there is a local slated single-storey outbuilding with double plank doors. Inside, there are battened partitions leading to the central stair, and the living room fireplace was rebuilt after traces of a cloam oven were discovered.
