Description

This is a house, now divided into two cottages, originally built as poor houses in the 17th century. The ground floor is built of colourwashed stone rubble, while the upper floors are of cob construction. The roof is covered in asbestos slate.

The original plan included a living room with a gable stack and a small parlour for each cottage. A staircase is located in a projecting section under the roof on the south front. The house is two storeys high. Originally, the main entrance was on the side of the living room, with a corresponding door against the stair projection on the south side. A timber door with half-glazed panes remains. Sixteen-paned double-hung sash windows are present, originally with brick arches, although some have been replaced with various paned windows in the 20th century.

Inside No. 4, the fireplace has been altered from its original open fire design, which included a clay oven. The interior of the second cottage was not inspected in detail during the survey.
