Description

Frondeg is a well-preserved cottage built from rubble stone in large roughly squared blocks, with a whitewashed front and a roof made of graded slates featuring stone end stacks and thin slate dripcourses. The cottage is small, single-storey, and part-lofted, with a double-fronted design that includes a 9-pane horned sash window on each side of a ledged door. It has slab lintels and thin slate sills. There is a 4-pane small sash window on the south end wall and a tiny loft light on the north end.

Inside, the cottage features an exceptionally well-preserved interior. The main room is divided from a smaller heated room under the croglofft by a stone partition wall. A stone lintel spans a wide fireplace in the main room, which has a moulded timber mantelshelf above it. A small screen with simple moulded detail creates a lobby by the entrance and includes narrow shelves that serve as built-in furniture. There is a window seat and a slate flagged floor. The original doorway leads to the secondary room, which contains a diminutive cast-iron fireplace, and a ladder provides access to the croglofft above this room.
