Description

The portico to the former Penrhyn Arms Hotel is a freestone Tuscan Doric structure that is set against a coursed rubble arched entrance, which was part of the long Georgian front of the building. The archway features voussoirs and sockets for beams that would have supported the porch roof. The portico has paired columns at the front and pilasters on the sides. It is topped with a plain entablature that includes a slate plaque inscribed with: "1799-1884 Yma Y Safai Gwesty’r 'Penrhyn Arms' Cartref Cyntaf Coleg Prifysgol Gogledd Cymru 1884-1926".
