Description
This late 19th century cast-iron crane is located at the southern end of the Boston Lodge Railway Works. It is set in a base made of large slate blocks and features a central cast-iron pivot. The frame supports large gear wheels and a shoe for a timber gib, which is currently missing. The crane was manufactured by H & J Ellis, Engineers, in Manchester, and it would have been used for loading goods to and from wagons on the siding.
