Description

The crane at the former Llechwedd Sidings is a Grade II listed structure featuring a manually-operated hoist made of cast iron. It is situated on a platform with coped sidings. The hoist has a tapering iron Doric column, which includes a swivel mechanism at the base that allows the crane arm to rotate from side to side. A crankshaft operates a large spoked wheel that controls the arm, which is a tapering octagonal mast made of painted pine and approximately 5 meters long. The foundry plate indicates it was made by W and J Galloway in Manchester.
