Description
The Railway Bridge at Former Llechwedd Sidings is a pair of cast-iron railway beam bridges built in 1879 when the Llechwedd slate mine established railway sidings east of the main railway track. These sidings were used to transport slates by rail to transhipment wharves at Deganwy. The bridges are heavily riveted and consist of two panels; the larger bridge spans the Afon Barlwydd at an angle and is approximately 6 meters long, while the other bridge, with a shallower beam, spans a former tramway leading to a now disused incline. Originally, both bridges carried single tracks from the sidings to the main line, but the rails have since been removed. They are listed as scarce examples of later 19th century cast-iron beam bridges and hold group value with other listed items at the former Llechwedd sidings.
