Description

This listing describes a pair of cast-iron railway beam bridges built in 1879 at the former Llechwedd Sidings. These sidings were established to facilitate the transport of slate from the nearby Llechwedd slate mine to transhipment wharves at Deganwy. The bridges are heavily riveted and consist of two panels; the larger bridge spans the Afon Barlwydd at an angle and is approximately 6 meters long, while the smaller bridge, which has a shallower beam, spans a former tramway leading to a now disused incline. Originally, these bridges carried single tracks from the sidings to the main railway line, but the rails have since been removed. They are noted as rare examples of later 19th-century cast-iron beam bridges and hold group value with other listed structures at the former Llechwedd Sidings.
