Description
Two wharf cranes located at the Canal Museum in Nottingham date from the late 19th century, with the left crane likely having been relocated in 1980-1981. The left crane is made of steel and cast iron, featuring a swivelling upright column with a curved jib attached at the base and secured by stays. It includes a windlass near the bottom and a large cast-iron pulley at the top. The right crane has a cast-iron swivel base with a geared windlass and a tapered square wooden jib, also secured by iron stays. Both cranes are hand-operated and were commonly used in the late 19th century at canal wharves, railways, and docks for handling small loads.
