Description
Kerfoots is a three-storey, three-bay shop featuring a whitened rendered front and rusticated quoins painted green. It has a slate roof supported by a deep moulded corbel table, extending to No 138, though the stone stack on the right has been removed. The shop front is set forward and framed by fluted pilasters, with a deep fascia that includes awnings above the windows. The central entrance is recessed and has double glazed doors with faceted panels at the base and an overlight, flanked by round-headed windows on the sides. The shop windows on either side of the entrance consist of pairs of two-light windows with round-headed thin glazing bars.
On the middle storey, there are paired round-headed windows in the outer bays and a single round-headed window in the central bay, all featuring moulded architraves, Corinthian capitals, keystones, and two-pane sashes. The upper storey has four-pane horned sash windows set in plain architraves.
The sides and rear of the building, which are roughcast and painted white at the back, have a hipped roof. While some small-pane sash windows remain, most have been replaced in earlier openings. The rear includes an external brick stack on the left side and a one-storey lean-to.
Inside, the ground floor boasts unusually high ceilings and is open, with the upper floors supported by cast iron posts. A prominent feature of the interior is the central full-height geometric staircase, which has turned balusters and newels, along with moulded tread ends. The ground floor also retains some moulded ceiling cornices.
