Description
Porthmadog Telephone Exchange is a neo-Georgian building dating from the 20th century. It has two storeys and an L-shaped plan, constructed from snecked rock-faced stone with pale freestone dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof. The front is symmetrical and features five bays, with a central panelled door set in a moulded round-headed surround that includes an overlight protected by half-moon pattern ironwork. Above the door, the words 'telephone exchange' are displayed in raised letters.
The lower storey has round-headed small-pane windows made from iron frames with radial glazing, while the upper storey features 12-pane sash windows. The right side of the building has one window, and the left side has four windows, all similar in style and located in yards that are concealed by contemporary coped walls. At the rear, there is a large modernist two-storey extension.
