Description
Ty-isaf is a single-storey building with an asymmetrical two-room plan, positioned roughly north-south on a slope. It features a cowhouse under a continuous roof line at the north (left) gable end. The exterior is made of roughly coursed rubblestone blocks set on a boulder plinth, with large quoins and lintels. The graded slate roof has been re-roofed with slate on the rear slope of the house.
The front of the building has an asymmetrical two-window arrangement with tall rectangular openings, which were formerly fitted with sash windows, flanking a roughly central boarded door that includes a glazed panel. A large ridge stack with slate drips is located to the left at the junction with the cowhouse. There is a small window opening in the upper part of the right gable end, along with two additional windows and a doorway on the back wall. The cowhouse features two doorways at the front, an opening in the gable end, and a window at the rear.
Inside, there is a stone cross-wall dividing the two rooms. The larger room on the left has boarded partitions and a massive inglenook fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel. The ceiling is boarded, revealing the bases of two A-frame trusses. The smaller room has plain joists supporting the floor of a croglofft, which also has a boarded ceiling. A rotted ladder is found on the floor of the main room. The cowhouse contains a central A-frame truss.
