Description
This is a square-plan engine house built in the form of a castellated tower. It features roughly coursed slate slab construction and originally had a gabled roof that was concealed by a crenellated parapet, although the roof structure is now missing. The entrance is located on the north side and consists of a square-headed doorway with a round-headed opening directly above it. On the east and west sides, there are twin round-headed arches at the ground level, with the western arch now blocked; these arches once housed shafts for winding gear. The upper level has round-headed openings on the east and south sides, with the latter infilled, and twin round-headed openings on the west side, which are also blocked.
Although the building is roofless, wall sockets for joists from the former first floor remain, along with extensive lime render below the former gable line. The south wall features a round-headed fireplace on the first floor and another fireplace on the ground floor, both with massive slate lintels.
