Description
Tyn-llwyn is a house built from roughly coursed rubblestone, rendered, and set on a massive granite boulder plinth. It features graded slate roofs with coped verges and integral end stacks with slate drips. The house is two storeys high and has a two-room plan with a passageway to the left of center. The right room is larger and has a slightly more substantial stack. Attached to the left gable end is a lower and possibly later cowhouse.
The front of the house has three windows that are symmetrically grouped around a roughly central entrance, leaving a larger area of unbroken wall to the right. The entrance features a 19th-century plank door under a stone lintel. The first floor has 19th-century casement windows, and there is a small window directly above the entrance, suggesting that the eaves may have been raised. The ground floor has larger cross-windows. There is a 20th-century conservatory on the right gable end. The cowhouse has a plank door on the right and a narrow slit opening on the left, with a lean-to attached to the left gable end.
Inside, the right ground-floor room has a large open fireplace with a timber lintel, along with traces of a stone seat and a bread oven. It features a large cross-beam and plain joists, as well as a window seat on the front wall. This room also includes a recess for a dresser. The central passageway is separated from both the left and right rooms by 19th-century matchboard partitions. The first floor has similar partitions and an A-frame truss. The cowhouse roof, which is in two bays, also features an A-frame truss.
