Description
The Former Post Office and Nos 1-3 Maes Gerddi is a two-storey row of buildings that includes a post office/shop at the north-eastern end and three attached cottages. The buildings have a continuous roofline for the post office/shop and No 1, which steps up to Nos 2 and 3. They are constructed from roughly coursed rubblestone, with late 20th-century repointing on No 3, and feature a slate roof.
The post office/shop has a 16-paned sash window located directly below the eaves on the left, with a fixed-light window immediately below it. There are boarded doors at the center on both floors and a late 19th-century shop front on the right, which includes an integral boarded door on the left and console brackets. Above the shop front are two 4-paned sash windows. The building has a truncated end stack to the left, a brick ridge stack at the center, and a rendered ridge stack to the right at the junction with No 1.
No 1 has a three-window front with 4-paned sashes throughout and a central half-glazed door, along with a brick stack to the right at the junction with No 2. Both Nos 2 and 3 consist of two bays and feature 20th-century half-glazed doors to the left, sharing a ridge stack. The windows throughout these cottages are top-hung, with those in No 2 replacing the original plate-glass sashes in January or February 1999.
At the rear, there are continuous catslide lean-tos for the post office/shop and No 1, flanking a shallow-pitched lean-to below the first-floor windows. A 19th-century rooflight is present on the post office/shop. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
