Description
This is a three-storey house built in a weather-boarded vernacular style, featuring a rendered ground floor. The pitched slate roof extends down to the left and right over lean-to blocks, creating a near-flush facade, and there is a rendered chimney. The house has asymmetrical elevations, with the front facing Battery Square. On the left side, there is a slightly-recessed lean-to section that includes a parapeted L-shaped stair leading to the first floor, all covered by a wide arch.
To the right, the main block has an off-centre narrow arched entrance with a recessed boarded door, and a small four-pane window beyond it. To the left of the entrance, there is a twelve-pane sash window with external shutters, and a lunette window to its left. On the first floor, there is another twelve-pane shuttered sash window to the left, with small square four-pane windows to the right. The second floor features a similar small window with taller six-pane flanking windows.
The weather-boarded rear elevation has nine-pane sash windows, with the ground floor featuring tripartite windows that include narrow four-pane outer sections. There is a partly-recessed terrace on the first floor to the left, with plain railings. To the left, a lower storeyed projection has irregular roof pitches and a canted bay on the ground floor, which contains the Chart Room. This section also features twelve-pane sashes, with lunette windows on the ground floor to the left, similar to those at the front.
